Writing a business plan is a major effort. Make sure that yours gets read by avoiding these deadly sins. Don't:
  1. Insist on a nondisclosure agreement up front.
  2. Focus on the technology (instead of the market, the competition, and the customers).
  3. Practice top-down sales forecasting.
  4. Predict that you will capture "2% of a billion-dollar market..."
  5. Use four significant digits everywhere.
  6. Position investors as necessary-but-unpleasant "mushrooms."
  7. Fill your plan with typos, errors, chartjunk, and repetition.
  8. Expect to be acquired by Microsoft.
  9. Back to Other Resources
